St. Clements, Rodel, on the Isle of Harris

The above photograph shows the church of St. Clements in the village of Rodel on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides/Western Isles of Scotland. If you are planning to visit, or take a vacation on, the Isle of Harris it is well worth visiting the church at Rodel. The exterior of the building has some very interesting stone work and the graves themselves are absolutely fascinating. If you ask at Rodel Hotel they will supply a key so that you can get inside and it is definitely worth asking because inside St. Clements are some truly spectacular graves including the tomb of Alasdair 'Crotach' Macleod which is richly decorated. If you wish to climb to the top of the church tower please be very careful and you should be prepared for the final stage which is accessed by a short ladder.
